LIFE programme

The LIFE programme is a financial instrument of the European Union dedicated to the Environment and Climate Action. Its main objective focuses around catalysing changes in the development and application of policy by providing solutions and practical improvements, in order to achieve environmental and climate goals, as well as the promotion of innovative technology related to the environment and climate change.

Since the beginning of the LIFE programme in 1992, four phases have been completed: LIFE I: 1992-1995, LIFE II: 1996-1999, LIFE III: 2000-2006 and LIFE+: 2007-2013). During this period they have co-financed around 3,954 projects across the whole of Europe, with a contribution of approximately 3.1 billion euros towards the protection of the environment.
