Habitat 1150* Coastal lagoons

See habitat register entry

GENERAL INFORMATION

009 Laura FernandezThese are aquatic media near the sea (lagoons, pikes, coastal lagoons, flood plains, salt marshes with anthropic intervention) from which they are generally separated by a sandy bar, loose stones or, less frequently, rocks. They are normally dynamic and shallow systems. The salinity may vary from brackish waters to hypersaline depending on precipitation, evaporation, contributions of freshwater from storms, seasonal floods from the sea during storms, or due to tidal exchange. These media may or may not have submerged aquatic halophile (adapted to salinity) vegetation.

3. Recover endangered species (for example, population reinforcements).
4. Control exotic species introduced.
5. Promote the valuation of coastal lagoons, particularly amongst the local population.
