Life Conhabit and Nerja Council organise joint activities to celebrate the World Day of the Environment in the town

The Life Conhabit Andalusia project and Nerja Council (Málaga), have prepared a varied programme of activities to take place next Monday, 5 June, on World Environment Day which has the motto “I’m with nature” this year.

The event will be at the Balcón de Europa, the famous viewpoint of the town, and it will have numerous activities that aim to raise awareness and disseminate among its participants benefitting from the Natura 2000 Network that, between Nerja and Almuñécar (Granada), one of the most valuable spaces on its coast are distributed: the Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo, an object of Life Conhabit.

The programme will start at 6pm, in the aforementioned viewpoint, one of the most famous in Andalusia, and it will have different workshops, educational games, slogans, a photocall of the Natura 2000 Network and manuals for making page markers or even origami workshops for learning how to make butterflies using this japanese technique.

In the case of the Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo, it is about disseminating its environmental richness and the need to preserve the 12 habitats of community interest status that it contains, of which 3 are priority: Posidonia pastures, arborescent shrubs with Zyziphus and subestepic areas of grass and annual plants of the Thero-Brachypodietea.

“I’m with nature” is this year’s motto for World Environment Day, a celebration introduced by the UN 44 years ago which in 2017, intends to create an interrelation of people with the natural environment so that they learn to value it. Specifically, that is the purpose that the programme is based upon prepared for the occasion by Life Conhabit and the Nerja city council, who are willing to carry it out and enjoy it in the open air until 10pm and to which all the locals and visitors of Nerja who wish to come are invited.
